“Selling a 10 ft long hot dog. This is not a joke. Made out of chicken wire and plaster. Help me help you add some fine art into your home. Must pick up by 6/18.”
Meat Stick was part of an exhibition I curated entitled “I need to get laid”. The show touched on themes of sexuality, gender, and intimacy. After the exhibition ended, I attempted to memorialize the hot dog by selling it on Facebook Marketplace. Despite receiving nearly 300 responses and an overwhelming amount of inquiries, it was not sold. However, framing the art object around second-hand goods spawned novel connections and conversations. Digital interactivity with commonplace objects not only altered the original context of the piece but also granted it a second life.
